My Little Girl
(Sherry Lynn Clark)
Words & Music: Sherry Lynn Clark
I don't know why she was there
Or what she had done
She was just like anyone
Whose life just hadn't begun
She said she had a little girl
Waitin' for her at home
It broke her heart to think of her there
Without her mommy, all alone
And she looked me in the eyes
And she began to cry
Chorus:
I wanna be there for my little girl
And with God's help I will
I don't know what the future holds
But I know His plan will be fulfilled
I wanna be there for my little girl
And with God's help I will
I wanna be there for my little girl
The woman, she approached me
Her daughter was by her side
Oh, you should have seen the light
That was shining from her eyes
She asked if I remembered her
I knew I had seen her before
She was the woman I had prayed with
Behind the prison doors
And she looked me in the eyes
And she began to cry
Chorus
Bridge:
She told me that she'd never leave
Her daughter, never again
And she'd never make the same mistake
She made back then
And as she drove away
I could still hear her say
Chorus
(This song was inspired by a true experience I
had. The band had played at the Women's
Correctional Facility in Purdy and I had spent
some time praying with some of the women.
About two weeks later while we were on vacation,
we stopped at a rest area in Eastern Washington,
and this woman came up to me with her daughter
with her. She asked if I was in a band, and I
said yes, trying to figure out where I had seen
her before. She said she had just been released
from Purdy that weekend and was on her way to
her new life--she even introduced me to her
parents!
She was one of the women I had prayed with that
night.)
